The Chosen has become one of the most talked-about faith-based television series in the world. Created by Dallas Jenkins, the show presents the life and ministry of Jesus Christ through the eyes of those who knew Him best. While the series is not a replacement for Scripture, it has encouraged millions of people to open their Bibles and take a fresh look at the Gospel accounts.
The Chosen: Bringing the Gospel Story to Life
A Different Perspective
One of the unique aspects of The Chosen is how it focuses on the people whose lives were transformed by Jesus. Characters such as Simon Peter, Matthew, Mary Magdalene, Nicodemus, and many others are portrayed with depth and humanity. Viewers see their struggles, fears, doubts, and hopes before encountering Christ.
This approach helps remind us that the people we read about in the Bible were real individuals with real challenges. Just like us, they needed God’s grace and redemption.
Jesus at the Center
The heart of the series is Jesus Himself. Portrayed by Jonathan Roumie, Jesus is shown as compassionate, loving, wise, and approachable while remaining faithful to His divine mission. The show highlights His miracles, teachings, and relationships with His followers, helping viewers better understand His impact on those around Him.
One of the most powerful themes throughout the series is that Jesus meets people where they are. Whether it is a tax collector, a fisherman, a religious leader, or someone rejected by society, Christ offers hope, forgiveness, and a new beginning.
A Tool for Spiritual Growth
Many Christians have found that The Chosen enhances their Bible study experience. Watching an episode often inspires viewers to read the corresponding passages in Scripture and gain a deeper understanding of the events recorded in the Gospels.
However, it is important to remember that the show includes creative elements and conversations not found in the Bible. As believers, we should always use Scripture as our ultimate authority and compare any dramatization with God’s Word.
As the Apostle Paul wrote:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16, KJV)
Why The Chosen Matters
In a world filled with distractions, The Chosen provides an opportunity for families, churches, and individuals to focus on the life of Jesus Christ. It sparks conversations about faith, discipleship, forgiveness, and God’s love.
Whether you are a lifelong Christian or someone exploring the teachings of Jesus for the first time, the series can serve as a valuable conversation starter and a reminder of the life-changing message found in the Gospel.
Final Thoughts
The Chosen is more than just a television series—it is a reminder of the greatest story ever told. While no dramatization can fully capture the depth of Scripture, the show has helped many people connect with the biblical narrative in a meaningful way.
As you watch, keep your Bible open, test everything against God’s Word, and allow the story of Jesus to draw you closer to Him.
