Christmas Traditions – These are traditions or things we do or have always did because our family has done them. #ChristmasTraditions
Christmas Traditions
I am revisiting this blog post that I priorly posted because my mom recently passed away.
I come from a smaller family. I don’t remember many of them from when I was a child. I only remember a few …
The first Christmas Tradition was we (my sister, mom and I) would always or most always put up the Christmas Tree the day after Thanksgiving. I believe we always played Christmas Music CD’s or watched VHS Christmas movies while putting up the Christmas Tree and decorations.
The other Christmas Tradition I remember was on Christmas Eve, we always got to open one small present under the tree. It had to be a small gift, not a big one.
On Christmas morning, my sister and I couldn’t open up presents, until we made mom breakfast in bed. Then we each took turns opening up a present.
I remember mom would get Angel Tree or or ones like it, mom wouldn’t redo the tags and kept the tag had boy and the item or girl and the item. My sister and I would peak and see what we got.
We would always love to watch the Christmas Programs on TV like A Charlie Brown’s Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Down, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Muppet’s Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, It’s A Wonderful Life and the list can go on and on. Unless we had it on VHS, we had to wait for it to air on TV. Streaming TV wasn’t around back then.
I also remember we would listen to “Santa and the Three Bears” on a record player and later found the cartoon and watched it with my daughter. “Santa and the Three Bears” is a cartoon from 1970. The story revolves around two bear cubs, Nikomi and Chinook, who are excited about Christmas despite their mother wanting them to hibernate. Santa Claus and his elves, aware of the bears’ wish to experience Christmas, come to help. The film blends the excitement of Christmas with the warmth of family and the adventure of friendship.
I am not sure why I don’t recall a lot from my childhood, but I don’t. For some reason, those are the only two I remember. However, if I remember more, I will come back and add it to this blog post. Maybe more will flash back to me since I no longer have my sister or mom anymore.
What are some of yours?
